Product Information
2021 Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen VDP.Grosses Gewächs Riesling trocken – Weingut Prinz – Rheingau
Single Vineyard
Origin
The Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen is one of the VDP.Große Lagen (Grand Crus) of the Rheingau and, at just 9.7 hectares, is one of the most exclusive parcels. The vineyards, which are sloping to the south-southeast, are protected from northerly winds and are characterized by sandy loam, tertiary marl, and loess, allowing for constant water supply and precise ripeness. The Prinz winery, which operates organically and biodynamically, interprets this site clearly, puristically, and with a focus on terroir.
Vinification
The grapes are selectively hand-picked and directly pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to preserve freshness and precision. This is followed by long aging on full lees until bottling in April, which creates structure, depth, and finesse. The focus is on clear site expression without over-manipulation.
Aroma and Taste
On the nose, white peach, citrus, and yellow apple, accompanied by herbs and mineral spice. On the palate, it is taut, cool, and precise, with lively acidity and salty minerality. Despite its structure, the wine appears harmonious and elegant, with a long, fine finish.
Food Pairings
A versatile companion: perfect with sushi and sashimi, grilled pike-perch with lemon butter, or poultry dishes with herbs. Also a harmonious partner with goat cheese or vegetarian dishes with fennel and citrus.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2021 vintage is considered classic, cool, and precise, with taut acidity, clear fruit, and high aging potential. A vintage reminiscent of great Riesling years of the past.
Conclusion
The 2021 Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen Riesling GG from Weingut Prinz is a highly precise, mineral, and elegant top Riesling. With depth, tension, and great aging potential, it is one of the classic references of the Rheingau.
