2021 "Tradition" Pinot Noir dry Weingut Gabel – Pfalz
Local wine

Origin:

Weingut Gabel in Herxheim am Berg looks back on over 350 years of family history. Since 1655, wines have been produced here – today, the winery is managed by Oliver Gabel, the 13th generation. After formative apprenticeships in Burgundy, Baden, and with top producers in the Pfalz, his focus is on Burgundy varieties, which account for about 70% of the vineyard area. Since the 1980s, the family has been committed to organic viticulture, and since 2019, their wines bear the organic seal. The calcareous soils around Herxheim am Berg provide ideal conditions for mineral, structured, and age-worthy Pinot Noir.

Aging:

The "Tradition" line stands for classically handcrafted wines. The Pinot Noir was selectively hand-picked, then spontaneously fermented on the skins and aged in up to 100-year-old large wooden barrels and French barriques. Approximately 12 months of aging in wood give it fine spice, depth, and structure. The bottling was done unfiltered to preserve the authenticity of the terroir.

Aroma & Taste:

The 2021 Pinot Noir "Tradition" shows dark cherries, elderberry, fine wood notes, and spicy accents of thyme, allspice, and dried porcini mushrooms on the nose. On the palate, it presents itself as clear, precise, and balanced, with fine tannins and a lively acidity that provides freshness and length. A mineral base ensures elegance and balance.

Food pairing:

Recommended with braised veal cheeks, lamb loin with herbs, duck breast with red wine sauce, or earthy vegetable dishes such as mushroom ragout and beetroot risotto. Its structure and finesse make it an ideal companion for aromatic dishes.

Peculiarities of the 2021 vintage in the Pfalz:

The 2021 vintage was characterized by a cool, wet spring and a labor-intensive summer. A dry, golden autumn ensured healthy, aromatic grapes with powerful acidity. For Pinot Noir, this meant fresh, elegant wines with clear fruit and classic structuretypical of an age-worthy vintage.

Conclusion:

The 2021 Pinot Noir "Tradition" from Weingut Gabel is a Burgundy-inspired Pinot Noir that combines elegance, spice, and freshness. A wine of character that shows how traditional craftsmanship and modern sensibility harmoniously come together in the Pfalz.
