Origin

The Ried Obegg is one of the top sites in Southern Styria. The high plateau of an ancient coral reef with meager, calcareous soils gives the wine mineral tension and saline freshness. Vines over 30 years old provide depth and complexity. Walter Polz interprets this terroir with elegance and precision.

Vinification

Selective hand harvesting and gentle processing. Aged in 500-liter tonneaux and 250-liter barriques with light toasting. Approximately 12 months of lees aging provide a creamy texture and subtle nutty aromas, while the wood remains subtly in the background.

Aroma and Taste

On the nose, fresh hay, chamomile, and delicate roasted aromas. On the palate, powerful and dense, yet complex and spicy, with ginger, white pepper, and saline minerality. The acidity provides freshness and balance, the finish is long, precise, and elegant.

Food Pairings

Ideal with turbot, veal fillet with morels, or poultry terrine. Also suitable with Comté or porcini mushroom risotto.
