Product Information
2012 Joyau Blanc Extra Brut Boizel - Champagne
single-vineyard wine
Origin:
The 2012 Cuvée Joyau Blanc is the prestige cuvée of the family-run Boizel winery, founded in Épernay in 1834. The wine is made exclusively from Grands and Premiers Crus of Champagne, renowned for their ageing and aging potential. The 2012 vintage used 60% Pinot Noir from Mailly, Cumières, and Chigny-les-Roses and 40% Chardonnay from Avize, Chouilly, and Vertus – exclusively from the first pressing.
Expansion:
Approximately 10% of the base wines were aged in old barrels to impart subtle, complex wood flavors. The Joyau then matured on its lees for over 10 years in the cellars of Maison Boizel before being disgorged as an Extra Brut with a dosage of 4 g/l . This extended aging gives it depth, finesse, and great aging potential.
Aroma & Taste:
In the glass, it displays a deep golden yellow with fine, lingering bubbles. The nose is intense and complex, initially featuring white flowers and citrus fruits , followed by roasted almonds and subtle notes of pastry . On the palate, it is silky, precise, and fresh , with citrus tension, a creamy texture, and aromatic richness. The long, mineral-driven finish underscores its character as a great vintage champagne.
Food recommendation:
An ideal accompaniment to sophisticated dishes such as grilled sea bass , Bresse poulard with girolles, or roasted Noir de Bigorre suckling pig from Gascony . It is also suitable with delicate caviar variations or as a solo wine for festive occasions.
Special features of the 2012 vintage in Champagne:
2012 is considered one of the best vintages of the last decade in Champagne. A difficult spring was followed by a perfectly ripe late summer , producing small yields but exceptionally concentrated grapes. The wines are characterized by ripeness, aromatic density, and great balance – perfect for long-aging prestige champagnes.
Conclusion:
The 2012 Joyau Blanc follows in the tradition of Boizel's prestige cuvée, first released in 1961. It combines power, elegance, and maturity , reflecting the quintessence of the Boizel style. A collector's item and exceptional, festive wine that impressively continues the legacy of the great Millésimes.
