2020 Bourgogne Blanc Côte d'Or Domaine Vincent Latour - Burgundy
local wine

Origin:

Domaine Vincent Latour is located in the heart of Meursault and has been run by Vincent Latour since 1998 , bottling this vintage for the first time under his own name. His breakthrough came in 2006 , when he was named best young winemaker in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits in a large blind tasting by the renowned wine magazine Bourgogne Aujourd'hui . Today, Vincent Latour cultivates around 8.2 hectares , with a focus on white wines from the classic Côte de Beaune appellations. For the 2020 Bourgogne Blanc, the grapes come from several plots in and around Meursault (including Clous Perrons, Bellecotes, and Durots) with clay and limestone soils . The plantings range from old vines from the 1950s to younger vines from 2019. Latour's style is characterized by the balance between the rich, classic style of Meursault and a modern, fresh, mineral interpretation .

Expansion:

The vineyards are cultivated according to the principle of lutte raisonnée , which means "sensible plant protection": chemicals are only used when there is no natural alternative, with the goal of being as environmentally friendly as possible . The grapes were harvested by hand, gently crushed, and gently pressed. After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the wine matured for 10 to 12 months in 600-liter barrels and foudres , with only about 10% new wood. Latour deliberately avoided batonnage to keep the wines clear, fresh, and vibrant. Before bottling, the wine was allowed to rest for several more months in steel tanks to achieve harmonious roundness.

Aroma & Taste:

The 2020 Burgogne Blanc presents a brilliant golden yellow in the glass. Ripe citrus fruits, yellow apple, and white blossoms dominate the nose, complemented by a hint of hazelnut and subtle wood. On the palate, it is dense, juicy, yet precise , with ripe fruit, clear acidity, and a fine salty minerality. The texture is creamy and powerful without sacrificing elegance.

Food recommendation:

A versatile food accompaniment, it pairs perfectly with grilled fish, poultry in light sauces, seafood , or even risotto with porcini mushrooms or asparagus . Its rich, ripe fruit flavor also makes it a perfect match with mature cheeses or as an elegant aperitif.

Special features of the 2020 vintage in Burgundy:

2020 is considered a paradoxically exceptional vintage : The earliest harvest in history began in mid-August. A warm, dry summer produced small yields, but highly concentrated, healthy grapes. The wines combine ripeness and fruitiness with astonishing freshness and balance , as they were able to maintain their acidity despite high levels of sunlight. This resulted in concentrated, age-worthy wines that simultaneously appear approachable.

Conclusion:

Vincent Latour's 2020 Bourgogne Blanc combines the richness and ripeness of a sunny vintage with the minerality and elegance of Meursault. A characterful, terroir-driven Burgundy that combines power, balance, and excitement. It impressively demonstrates how Latour vinifies wines of clarity, precision, and great potential, even in warmer years—a prime example of the domaine's consistency and signature style.
