2021 Bourgogne Blanc Domaine Vincent Latour - Burgundy
Estate wine
Origin:
Domaine Vincent Latour is located in the heart of Meursault and has been run by Vincent Latour since 1998, bottling this vintage for the first time under his own name. His breakthrough came in 2006, when he was named best young winemaker in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits in a large blind tasting by the renowned wine magazine Bourgogne Aujourd'hui . Today, Vincent Latour cultivates around 8.2 hectares , focusing on white wines from the classic Côte de Beaune appellations. For the 2021 Bourgogne Blanc, the grapes come from several plots in and around Meursault (including Clous Perrons, Bellecotes, and Durots) with clay and limestone soils. The plantings range from old vines from the 1950s to younger vines from 2019. Latour's style is characterized by the balance between the rich, classic style of Meursault and a modern, fresh, mineral interpretation.
Expansion:
The vineyards are cultivated according to the principle of lutte raisonnée , which means "sensible plant protection": chemicals are only used when there is no natural alternative, with the goal of being as environmentally friendly as possible . The grapes were harvested by hand, gently crushed, and gently pressed. After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the wine matured for 10 to 12 months in 600-liter barrels and foudres , with only about 10% new wood . Latour deliberately avoided batonnage to keep the wines clear, fresh, and vibrant . Before bottling, the wine was allowed to rest for several more months in steel tanks to achieve harmonious roundness.
Aroma & Taste:
The 2021 Bourgogne Blanc presents a golden robe in the glass. The nose is dominated by fresh grapes, citrus notes, and white flowers , accompanied by a hint of nuttiness and subtle wood. On the palate, it is rich yet taut , with lively acidity and a fine salty minerality. The texture is creamy without being heavy – the balance of freshness, tension, and elegant fullness is paramount.
Food recommendation:
A versatile accompaniment: it pairs perfectly with grilled fish , poultry in light sauces , seafood , or even asparagus risotto . Its freshness makes it equally well-suited to goat cheese or as an elegant aperitif.
Special features of the 2021 vintage in Burgundy:
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was characterized by late frost, cool weather, and severe disease pressure . Yields were low, and the work in the vineyards was enormous. The wines often exhibited an austere austerity at first, but with some maturity, they developed finesse, clarity, and classic elegance . Chardonnay, in particular, offers lean, precise wines reminiscent of earlier, cooler vintages and impress with their freshness and minerality.
Conclusion:
The 2021 Bourgogne Blanc from Vincent Latour is an honest, terroir-focused Burgundy that combines the classic Meursault style with modern clarity. It demonstrates how, even in a difficult vintage, precise work in the vineyard and careful aging can produce wines with elegance, freshness, and potential . It's a showcase of the domaine's consistency and expertise—and a wine that reflects Burgundy in its timeless form .
