2021 Meursault "Clos de Magny" Domaine Vincent Latour - Burgundy
local wine
Origin:
Domaine Vincent Latour is located in the heart of Meursault and has been managed by Vincent Latour since 1998, who bottled this vintage under his own name for the first time. His breakthrough came in 2006, when he was named Best Young Winemaker of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits in a large blind tasting by the renowned wine journal Bourgogne Aujourd'hui . Today, he cultivates approximately 8.2 hectares , primarily planted with Chardonnay, supplemented by some Pinot Noir. Stylistically, the wines range from classic Meursault richness to modern, mineral precision—always characterized by elegance, clarity, and authenticity.
The Clos de Magny vineyard lies directly below the village of Meursault, along a historic road that once connected the hospital with the Cîteaux Abbey. The soil, composed of calcareous clay and white marls, lends the wines their characteristic minerality and precision. Vincent Latour's nearly 0.93-hectare plots were planted between 1979 and 1983 , making them among the domaine's oldest vineyards.
Expansion:
The grapes were hand-picked and, after light crushing, gently pressed. Fermentation took place with natural yeasts in 600- liter demi-muids made from one- and two-year-old oak. The wine then aged for 12 months on the fine lees , followed by four to six months in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and clarity. Batonnage was deliberately omitted to focus on tension and minerality.
Aroma & Taste:
In the glass, the wine displays a brilliant golden yellow . The nose offers delicate aromas of vine blossoms, fresh almonds, and citrus fruits . On the palate, it is rich, structured, and yet elegant , with a clear minerality characterized by the chalky soil. Fresh yellow fruits combine with a subtle spiciness, and the finish is precise and balanced . A Meursault with depth, finesse, and a classic signature.
Food recommendation:
An excellent accompaniment to scallops , grilled fish , poultry in creamy sauces , or even risotto with porcini mushrooms . It also pairs well with mature cheeses like Comté or fine vegetarian dishes.
Special features of the 2021 vintage in Burgundy:
2021 was a challenging vintage , marked by frost in the spring, cool weather, and disease pressure. Yields were low, and the work in the vineyards was enormous. Nevertheless, the vintage produced wines with finesse, freshness, and classic elegance , reminiscent of earlier times. The Chardonnay, in particular, exhibited a precise acid structure and a clear expression of terroir —ideal prerequisites for long-lasting Burgundy wines.
Conclusion:
The 2021 Meursault Clos de Magny from Vincent Latour combines the minerality of historic soils with the signature of a winemaker who blends tradition and modernity. It represents a return to the elegance and clarity of the Meursault style – less oak, more terroir. A wine that impressively interprets the historic Clos de Magny vineyard and authentically carries on the heritage of the Côte de Beaune.
