Origin

The Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is one of the great icons of Supertuscans, founded in 1981 by Lodovico Antinori. The vineyards in Bolgheri benefit from maritime influences, intense sunlight, and diverse soils. Since 2005, the estate has belonged to the Frescobaldi family. The 2022 vintage marks a transition between Axel Heinz and Marco Balsimelli.

Vinification

Selective hand-harvesting in small crates, double selection, and gentle vinification. Aged for 18 months in barriques (70% new), followed by further barrel and bottle aging. The blend consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.

Aroma and Taste

On the nose, cassis, dark berries, and plum, complemented by tobacco, vanilla, and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, powerful, dense, and elegant, with fine-grained tannins and clear structure. The ripe fruit and mineral depth (graphite) provide complexity, and the finish is long, spicy, and balanced.
