Product Information
2022 Seña – Valle del Aconcagua/Chile
single-vineyard wine
Origin:
Seña is considered Chile's first "Icon Wine"—a milestone born in 1995 from the visionary partnership between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi . Originating in the Aconcagua Valley , this wine impressively combines Chilean terroir depth with the elegance of a Bordeaux blend. Seña achieved global acclaim in 2004 at the legendary "Berlin Tasting," where it outperformed Bordeaux icons such as Lafite, Latour, and Margaux in a blind tasting. Today, Seña—like Viñedo Chadwick—is sold through La Place de Bordeaux and is considered a collector's item for discerning wine lovers.
Expansion:
The 2022 vintage comes from 42 hectares of organically and biodynamically farmed vines on volcanic, colluvial, and alluvial soils with gravelly and clayey structures. The blend consists predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon , complemented by Carmenère, Malbec, Petit Verdot , and, depending on the vintage , Cabernet Franc or Merlot . After vinification, the wine aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (70–85% new) and partially in large foudres – for a perfect balance between power and finesse.
Aroma & Taste:
On the nose, the Seña presents intense aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis, and blueberries , accompanied by violets, cedarwood, black pepper , and a hint of cocoa beans on the finish. On the palate, it displays precise structure , silky tannins, and lively acidity that lend freshness and length. The finish is deep, mineral, and persistent—a wine with great aging potential.
Food recommendation:
This wine goes perfectly with intense, aromatic dishes such as rack of lamb with a rosemary crust, braised venison ragout with root vegetables or classic Chilean churrasco on a soft roll with mayo, tomato and avocado.
Decant the 2022 Seña for at least one hour and serve it at 16–18°C with fine meat dishes, game, or mature hard cheeses. Drink now, but with 20+ years of development potential.
Special features of the 2022 vintage in Chile:
The 2022 year was characterized by very little rainfall and moderate temperatures without extreme heat , leading to good ripeness and balanced acidity. The red wines are characterized by intense color, elegant tannins, ripe fruit aromas, and fresh acidity.
Conclusion:
The 2022 Seña masterfully combines elegance and power. With its deep fruit, delicate spice, and mineral freshness, it showcases the full class of the Aconcagua Valley. An iconic Chilean wine with great aging potential—timeless and groundbreaking at the same time.
