Saltaren Wines

A name to remember when it comes to Riesling in its purest form. Alex is one of the rising wine talents in the Rheingau, pursuing his own (wine) dream alongside his work at Weingut Peter-Jakob Kühn.

He worked as a sommelier in Colombia and trained as a winemaker in Germany. With his own wines, he pursues a self-taught learning process in the vineyards.

I have known his wines since 2019 and am truly impressed by his approach to winemaking and his consistent integration of nature's work. Since his wines (ultimately only 6-7 barrels) always sell out quickly due to the small quantity, I have secured some for you and want to give such a young winemaking talent a platform.

There are three wines from Saltaren Wines:

Labeja Riesling dry

The bee "La Beja" is an important element in viticulture, ensuring diversity in the vineyard. Over 25-year-old vines from the Mittelheim St. Nikolaus next to Peter-Jakob Kühn's famous "Schlehdorn" parcel. Dense, with great structure and length.

Edilia Riesling dry

Named after his grandmother, the vines are also located in Mittelheim St. Nikolaus, but are older than those for Labeja. Deep, ripe minerality and texture characterize this wine.

Basilica Riesling dry

The newest addition comes from old vines, located at the oldest church in the Rheingau, the Mittelheim Basilica St. Ägidius. Pure precision and elegance. All wines are pressed with a classic basket press; whole cluster pressing, maceration time, and maceration fermentation are a given for Alex. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in used 300l wooden barrels.
