Bordeaux, in southwestern France, is the world's benchmark for full-bodied red wine blends. The region is defined by the Gironde estuary, which divides it into a left and a right bank. On the left bank, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, producing structured, age-worthy wines, while on the right bank, Merlot yields softer, velvetier wines.
