Styria in southern Austria is primarily known for its expressive white wines. The often very steep slopes produce fresh, clearly defined wines with vibrant acidity. The flagship grape is Sauvignon Blanc, but Morillon (the local name for Chardonnay) and the aromatic Gelber Muskateller also play important roles. Welschriesling is also widely cultivated.
