Origin:

Bodegas Alión was founded in 1986 by the Álvarez family, who also own the renowned Vega Sicilia winery. The goal was to create a distinctive, modern Ribera del Duero – their own project with a clear identity. The first vintage was released in 1991. The vines grow in Pesquera, Padilla, and Moradillo on calcareous sedimentary soils with sand, gravel, and stones, ensuring natural drainage and a balanced water supply. Today, Alión is considered one of Spain's most distinctive Tempranillos, combining power and elegance in a modern style.

Vinification:

The grapes come from over 30-year-old Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines and are hand-selected. After a three-day cold maceration, spontaneous fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 12–14 months in new French barriques, then matures for another 15 months in the bottle before being released for sale.

Aroma & Taste:

The 2020 Alión shows a dense purple-red with violet reflections in the glass. On the nose, blueberries, blackberries, and stewed plums unfold, accompanied by spicy notes, chocolate, licorice, and black tea. On the palate, it is structured, complex, and precise, with dark fruit, fine roasted aromas, and a hint of oak. The tannins are well integrated, the acidity is lively, and the texture is dense and balanced.

Food Pairing:

Recommended with grilled or braised beef and lamb, game dishes, or roasted duck. It also pairs excellently with hearty vegetable dishes or aged hard cheeses. Optimal serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
