Product Information
2021 Gau-Weinheim Chardonnay dry – Stumm & Klein – Rheinhessen
Ortswein (Village Wine)
Origin
The Gau-Weinheim Chardonnay comes from the Kaisergarten, one of the most limestone-rich sites in Rheinhessen. The soils of calcareous marl and limestone impart freshness, tension, and salty minerality. Stumm & Klein work meticulously with reduced yields to produce highly concentrated, terroir-driven grapes.
Vinification
Selective hand harvesting and whole cluster pressing. Spontaneous fermentation in used barriques with approximately 15 months on full lees, followed by short aging in stainless steel. Bottled unfiltered and unfined for maximum authenticity.
Aroma and Taste
On the nose, ripe pear, yellow apple, and white flowers, accompanied by brioche and almond. On the palate, creamy, precise, and taut, with lively acidity and mineral pull. The finish is long, salty, and elegant.
Food Pairings
Ideal with grilled fish, poultry in creamy sauces, or seafood. Also suitable with mushroom risotto or aged cheese.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2021 vintage was cool and challenging, yet yielded precise, finessed, and age-worthy wines, with fresh acidity and moderate alcohol.
Conclusion
The 2021 Gau-Weinheim Chardonnay is a precise, mineral-driven, and Burgundian-influenced Chardonnay. A characterful village wine with elegance, tension, and great aging potential.
