Product Information
2022 Gau-Weinheim Chardonnay dry – Stumm & Klein – Rheinhessen
Village wine
Origin
The Gau-Weinheim Chardonnay comes from Kaisergarten, one of the most lime-rich sites in Rheinhessen. The soils of calcareous marl and limestone provide salty minerality, tension and longevity. Densely planted vines with Burgundian genetics yield small, highly concentrated grapes.
Vinification
Selective hand harvesting and whole cluster pressing. Aged for 18 months in used barriques on the full lees, followed by further maturation in stainless steel. Bottled unfiltered, unfined and with minimal sulfites in a purist, low-intervention style.
Aroma and Taste
On the nose, white flowers, ripe pear and yellow apple, complemented by citrus zest, brioche and hazelnut. On the palate, taut, juicy and at the same time creamy, with lively acidity and precise minerality. The finish is long, salty and energetic.
Food Pairings
Ideal with grilled fish, poultry in light sauces or seafood. Also suitable for goat cheese or refined vegetable dishes.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2022 vintage was hot and dry, but was balanced by rain in September. The wines show ripe fruit, clear structure and fine acidity.
Conclusion
The 2022 Gau-Weinheim Chardonnay combines power and elegance at the highest level. A mineral, precise and Burgundian-influenced Chardonnay with depth, energy and great aging potential.
