2022 Rüdesheim Berg Roseneck Riesling dry Winery Alexander Schregel - Rheingau
single-vineyard wine
Origin:
The Roseneck mountain is one of Rüdesheim's most famous steep slopes. It owes its name to the wild rose bushes that still grow among the rocks today. The slate-quartzite soils with a loess-clay layer give the wines a racy, cool minerality and a stable, ripe acid structure that makes them age-worthy for decades. Alexander Schregel works here with uncompromising craftsmanship – spontaneous fermentation, minimal use of sulfur, and a complete avoidance of fining – to bring the pure character of this special site into the glass.
Expansion:
The grapes were selectively harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously . The wine was aged in traditional wooden barrels with extended lees aging . Filtration and modern interventions were consistently avoided to preserve the uniqueness of the terroir . The result is a wine with unadulterated depth and a clear signature.
Aroma & Taste:
On the nose, the wine initially presents itself as delicately spicy, with hints of white flowers, citrus fruit, and ripe peach , along with subtle mineral notes of flint. On the palate, it is powerful and precise , with juicy stone fruit, clear herbal spice, and a salty minerality that provides freshness and length. The acidity in 2022 is moderate and perfectly integrated , lending the wine elegance and balance. The finish is long, vibrant, and underscored by a subtle herbal note.
Food recommendation:
Excellent with pan-fried zander with fennel , scallops with herb butter , or even with poultry with lemon and ginger sauce or mature goat cheese. A versatile accompaniment that particularly excels in fine dining.
Special features of the 2022 vintage in the Rheingau:
The 2022 vintage was characterized by heat and drought , which, however, were often cushioned by cooler nights and soils with good water retention on the steep slopes of the Rheingau. While some Burgundy varieties suffered, Riesling emerged as the clear winner . The grapes were very ripe, aromatic, and healthy, with must weights mostly between 80 and 85° Oechsle. Due to the warmth, the acidity was more moderate than in 2021, yet finely integrated and harmonious. The result: balanced, fruit-forward, and terroir-influenced Rieslings with elegance and drinking pleasure .
Conclusion:
The 2022 Rüdesheim Berg Roseneck Riesling dry is a wine of power and finesse , combining the strength of its magnificent vineyard site with Alexander Schregel's signature style: puristic, unadulterated, and true to its terroir. With its fine minerality and harmonious acidity, it is a delight even young, but also possesses excellent aging potential . A distinctive single-vineyard Riesling that impressively confirms the Roseneck's reputation as one of the Rheingau's truly great vineyard sites.
