2022 Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett Egon Müller – Mosel / Saar
Single-vineyard wine

Origin:

The Egon Müller-Scharzhof winery in Wiltingen has been closely associated with the name of Scharzhofberg for over 200 years – one of Germany's most famous vineyards and a symbol of great Rieslings. The barren, south-facing Devonian slate soils lend the wines mineral depth, lightness, and finesse. Especially the Kabinett from this vineyard is considered the epitome of the Saar stylesubtle, structure-driven, and with fine elegance.

Winemaking:

The Kabinett is – as it has been for generationsspontaneously fermented in old Mosel fuders and then aged in them. No fining, no additives, minimal intervention – that is Egon Müller's credo. In the 2022 vintage, botrytis was deliberately allowed to develop to give the wine depth and aromatic complexity.

Aroma & Taste:

The 2022 Scharzhofberger Kabinett shows notes of ripe peach, mirabelle plum, lime zest, and fine herbs on the nose, underpinned by the typical slate spice. On the palate, it is clear, precise, and balanced, with ripe fruit and invigorating freshness. The acid structure balances the fine residual sweetness, while a saline minerality gives the wine length and elegance. A harmonious vintage that combines accessibility and depth.

Food Pairing:

Recommended as an accompaniment to Asian dishes with subtle spice, to shrimp, sushi, or sashimi. It also pairs particularly well with fresh goat cheese or fresh herb salads due to its freshness and minerality.

Special characteristics of the 2022 vintage in the Mosel / Saar:

The 2022 vintage was warm and dry, resulting in ripe, aromatic grapes. The cool nights of the Saar provided freshness and pronounced acidity, so the wines remained balanced and clear despite their ripeness. The vintage presents itself as powerful, fruit-driven, and at the same time elegant, with a smooth, harmonious style.

Conclusion:

The 2022 Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett combines classic Saar finesse with the ripeness of a warm vintage. A balanced, minerally driven Riesling that unites precision, freshness, and aging potential – an example of traditional craftsmanship and terroir fidelity at the highest level.
