2022 Silvaner "Vorderes Tal" dry Wine by Esra & Thorben - Rheinhessen
single-vineyard wine
Origin:
The 2022 Silvaner "Vorderes Tal" is the latest creation by Esra Flick and Thorben Maurer , who have been implementing their own ideas and styles under the label Wine by Esra & Thorben since 2021. The grapes come from the Wonnegau region of Rheinhessen , where calcareous soils and a balanced microclimate characterize the vines. Although Silvaner tends to ripen well, it maintains a remarkable freshness and acidity in this vineyard—a fascinating terroir that makes this wine unmistakable.
Expansion:
The harvest was carried out by hand , followed by gentle pressing using traditional methods in an old basket press . After a light preliminary clarification, the must fermented spontaneously in 300-liter quarter-barrels . The wine matured on the full lees for twelve months and then on the fine lees for another winter before being bottled unfiltered and with only minimal sulfur additions after a total of 20 months . This is an uncompromising , low-intervention style that emphasizes authenticity and individuality.
Aroma & Taste:
The Silvaner's bouquet displays clear, stimulating aromas of lime, green apple, and delicate herbs , underscored by a light yeasty spice. On the palate, it impresses with a taut, precise acidity structure that perfectly balances the ripe fruit and a fine, almost salty minerality. Taut, but not austere—a wine with elegant freshness, clarity, and impressive length .
Food recommendation:
This Silvaner pairs perfectly with light appetizers, summer salads, grilled fish , or vegetable dishes with fresh herbs . Thanks to its freshness and structure, it also makes an ideal accompaniment to Asian cuisine or light meat dishes .
Special features of the 2022 vintage in Rheinhessen:
The year 2022 was characterized by heat and drought , which caused stress for many vines during the summer. However, in Wonnegau, the deep soils were able to retain sufficient water, allowing the grapes to ripen in a concentrated and healthy manner . The rain that began in September brought additional freshness and allowed for the production of balanced wines with clear fruit and moderate acidity . An exceptional year for Silvaner, offering great elegance and drinking pleasure.
Conclusion:
The 2022 Silvaner "Vorderes Tal" is an authentic, exciting wine that demonstrates how much character this grape variety can develop in the right hands. With its invigorating freshness, clear fruit, and precise acidity, it is truly unique—strictly limited to only 400 bottles .
