Product Information
2023 Grünhäuser Pinot Noir VDP.Erste Lage – Weingut Maximin Grünhaus – Mosel
Ortswein (Village Wine)
Origin
Weingut Maximin Grünhaus boasts a history spanning over 1000 years and is one of the most traditional wineries in the Mosel region. The grapes come from the steep slate vineyards surrounding the Abtsberg, which impart mineral freshness, elegance, and cool precision to the Pinot Noir. The new Burgundy line showcases a modern interpretation of the Ruwer terroir.
Winemaking
Selective hand-picking and traditional mash fermentation, partly with whole clusters. Matured in French barriques, some made from Grünhaus oak. The aim is a balance of fruit, spice, and structure.
Aroma and Taste
On the nose, cherry, raspberry, and floral notes, accompanied by violets, herbs, and black tea. On the palate, silky, precise, and elegant, with fine acidity and polished tannins. The fruit is clear and invigorating, the finish mineral, fresh, and long.
Food Pairings
Ideal with duck, veal, fish, or mushroom dishes. Also pairs well with aged soft cheese.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2023 vintage was warm and challenging, yet it produced fresh, elegant, and balanced Pinot Noirs, with moderate alcohol and clear fruit.
Conclusion
The 2023 Grünhäuser Pinot Noir VDP.Erste Lage is an elegant, mineral, and Burgundy-inspired Spätburgunder. A precise wine with finesse, freshness, and modern style.
