Product Information
2001 Viña Tondonia Tinto Reserva López de Heredia – Rioja
Single Vineyard Wine
Origin
The Viña Tondonia Tinto Reserva 2001 comes from the traditional winery López de Heredia, a symbol of classic Rioja culture. The Viña Tondonia vineyard in Haro (Rioja Alta) is characterized by calcareous and clay soils, which give the wine depth, elegance, and longevity.
Vinification
The blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo was traditionally fermented in wooden vats and then aged for six years in used American oak barrels. This was followed by long bottle aging to develop complexity and finesse.
Aroma and Taste
On the nose, there are notes of dried cherries, figs, and red fruits, accompanied by leather, tobacco, and subtle vanilla. On the palate, the wine is silky, complex, and harmonious, with ripe tannins and clear acidity. The finish is long, spicy, and balsamic.
Food Pairings
Ideal with lamb, game dishes, or hearty stews. Also suitable with Manchego or Jamón Ibérico.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2001 vintage is considered outstanding ("Excelente"), with optimal ripeness, structure, and great aging potential.
Conclusion
An iconic Rioja with classic maturity, combining elegance, tradition, and complexity. The Viña Tondonia Reserva 2001 showcases the timeless signature of López de Heredia.
