Wine by Esra & Thorben

Two young winemakers, one clear vision

In Rheinhessen, where rolling hills and limestone soils have shaped wine for centuries, a young duo is bringing a breath of fresh air:
Esra Flick and Thorben Maurer – the team behind Wine by Esra & Thorben – belong to a generation of young winemakers who are once again thinking about wine in an honest, artisanal and natural way.

Their wines are quiet in their appearance, but clear in their message: less technology, more feeling – less intervention, more origin.

From Geisenheim studies to your own wine project

Esra and Thorben met at Geisenheim University, where many talented people in the German wine scene begin their careers.
Esra comes from the Flick winemaking family in Bechtolsheim, Rheinhessen – their roots are deeply rooted in regional viticulture. Thorben brings experience from the Palatinate, Burgundy, and Champagne – stages that have shaped his style: precise, structured, and terroir-focused.

Together they combine tradition and modern wine philosophy to achieve a clear goal: to create wines that have character, not calculation.

Natural Wine with Signature: The Cuvée White

Their first joint project, the Cuvée Weiß, is a prime example of low-intervention wine from Rheinhessen.
The cuvée combines Kerner, Silvaner, Scheurebe and Riesling – varieties that Esra & Thorben deliberately do not smooth out, but rather show in their natural balance.

The wine is fermented spontaneously, with around 48 hours of maceration, ten months of full-yeast storage, minimal use of sulfur, and unfiltered bottling.
The result is a wine that is lively, saline, elegant, and surprisingly textured—a true statement for modern, authentic winemaking in Rheinhessen.

Philosophy: Less intervention, more expression

The two young winemakers work according to the conviction:

“We don’t want to shape things, but rather accompany them.”

This attitude is palpable. Their wines are born of patience, trust, and respect – for the soil, the vines, and the vintage.
“Wine by Esra & Thorben” stands for natural wine that is neither dogmatic nor loud – but quiet, precise and full of excitement.

A new generation of Rheinhessen

With Wine by Esra & Thorben, Esra Flick and Thorben Maurer show what new winemaking in Rheinhessen can look like:
Handcrafted, close to nature, unpretentious – and full of curiosity about what happens when you let things take their course.

Their wines are a counterpoint to the noisy wine scene: honest, refined, full of character.
Anyone who tries them will sense the attitude behind them – and understand that true authenticity often grows in silence.
