Product Information
2012 Viña Tondonia Tinto Reserva López de Heredia – Rioja
Single Vineyard
Origin
The Viña Tondonia Tinto Reserva 2012 comes from the traditional López de Heredia winery in Haro, one of the oldest and most classic houses in Rioja. The grapes grow in the Viña Tondonia vineyard on calcareous and clayey soils with alluvial influences, which give the wine structure, depth, and elegance.
Aging
The wine was aged for six years in used American oak barrels, followed by long bottle aging. The traditional vinification deliberately eschews new oak, focusing on maturity, balance, and terroir expression. Bottling is done unfiltered.
Aroma and Taste
On the nose, there are notes of ripe cherry, wild berries, and dried fruits, accompanied by tobacco, cedarwood, and vanilla. With aeration, earthy notes, leather, and herbs develop. On the palate, the wine is elegant, structured, and harmonious, with ripe tannins and lively acidity. The finish is long, spicy, and complex.
Food Pairings
Ideal with lamb, game dishes, or robust tapas. Also suitable with aged Manchego or hearty dishes.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2012 vintage was characterized by drought and low yields, resulting in concentrated and age-worthy wines.
Conclusion
A classic Rioja with timeless elegance, combining tradition, maturity, and complexity. The Viña Tondonia Reserva 2012 showcases the iconic signature of López de Heredia.
