Product Information
2018 “Vigna del Convento” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC – Valle Reale – Abruzzo
Single Vineyard Wine
Origin
The Vigna del Convento Montepulciano comes from a historic site near Capestrano in Abruzzo, close to a former monastery. Valle Reale is one of the region's leading producers and stands for precise, terroir-driven viticulture. The vines grow in high-altitude sites with limestone and gravel soils under a cool climate influenced by the Apennines.
Winemaking
The grapes were selectively hand-picked and spontaneously fermented. The wine is aged in large wooden barrels and partly concrete, with long lees aging to promote structure, depth, and elegance.
Aroma and Taste
The nose reveals dark berries, cherry, and plum, accompanied by herbs, spices, and mineral notes. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet precise, with ripe tannins and lively freshness. The finish is long, structured, and elegant.
Food Pairings
Ideal with lamb, beef, or game dishes. Also suitable with braised meat or aged hard cheese. Serve at 16–18 °C.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2018 vintage in Abruzzo was balanced with good ripeness and fresh structure, resulting in harmonious and long-lived red wines.
Conclusion
The 2018 Vigna del Convento Montepulciano represents an elegant, structured, and terroir-driven red wine. With depth, freshness, and mineral tension, it showcases the class of Abruzzo.
