Product Information
2020 Kirchheim Steinacker Spätburgunder dry – Weingut Gabel – Pfalz
Single-vineyard wine
Origin
Weingut Gabel looks back on over 350 years of history and is now run by Oliver Gabel, the 13th generation. The focus is on Burgundian grape varieties and organic cultivation. The Kirchheimer Steinacker vineyard is one of the coolest and most lime-rich parcels in the region, producing precise, elegant, and mineral Pinot Noirs.
Vinification
The vines come from Selection Massale from Burgundy with high planting density. The grapes are selectively hand-picked, partly fermented with whole bunches in wooden fermentation vats, and then aged for 18 months in barriques. Bottling is done unfined and unfiltered.
Aroma and Taste
On the nose, sour cherry, forest floor, and fine brittle. On the palate, it is tight, elegant, and full of tension, with fresh acidity, mineral grip, and precise fruit. The cool style provides depth and great aging potential.
Food Pairings
Ideal with veal cheeks, rack of lamb, or duck breast. Also suitable with mushroom dishes or beetroot risotto. Also an experience on its own in a Burgundy glass.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2020 vintage was warm and dry, but produced ripe, elegant, and structured Pinot Noirs, with good balance and aging potential.
Conclusion
The 2020 Kirchheim Steinacker Spätburgunder is a Burgundian-influenced, precise, and elegant Pinot Noir. A characterful single-vineyard wine with depth, minerality, and great development potential.
