2021 Meursault "Narvaux" Domaine Vincent Latour - Burgundy
single-vineyard wine
Origin:
Domaine Vincent Latour is located in the heart of Meursault and has been managed by Vincent Latour since 1998, who bottled this vintage under his own name for the first time. His breakthrough came in 2006, when he was named Best Young Winemaker of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits in a large blind tasting by the renowned wine journal Bourgogne Aujourd'hui . Today, he cultivates approximately 8.2 hectares , primarily planted with Chardonnay, supplemented by some Pinot Noir. Stylistically, the wines range from classic Meursault richness to modern, mineral precision—always characterized by elegance, clarity, and authenticity.
The "Les Narvaux" vineyard lies above the village of Meursault, directly adjacent to renowned Premier Cru sites such as Genevrières. The soil is rich in limestone, barren, and only thinly covered with clay, allowing the vines to quickly contact the underlying rock. These conditions ensure optimal drainage, minerality, and cool air circulation , which impart freshness and excitement to the grapes. Vincent Latour's 0.57-hectare plot, planted with Chardonnay in 1989, is farmed sustainably according to the principle of lutte raisonnée .
Expansion:
The grapes were hand-picked , lightly crushed, and gently pressed. Fermentation took place with natural yeasts in 600-liter one- and two-year-old oak demi-muids . The wine then aged for 12 months on the fine lees , followed by a further 4–6 months in stainless steel tanks to emphasize freshness and precision. Batonnage was omitted to preserve the mineral clarity.
Aroma & Taste:
The 2021 "Narvaux" presents itself taut, clear, and minerally . The nose reveals citrus fruit, white flowers, and a subtle hint of rock spice . On the palate, it is concentrated, powerful, yet elegant , with a precise, cool texture and pronounced minerality. The structure is straightforward and requires patience—with age, it will develop additional depth and harmony.
Food recommendation:
Ideal with grilled fish or seafood , scallops , or poultry in light sauces . It also unfolds its elegance with vegetarian dishes with asparagus or mushrooms, as well as with fine goat cheese.
Special features of the 2021 vintage in Burgundy:
The 2021 vintage was characterized by frost, cool weather, and disease pressure , which significantly reduced yields. The wines initially appear leaner than the voluminous previous years, but exhibit classic elegance, freshness, and terroir precision . Especially from sites like "Les Narvaux," this results in a wine with clear minerality, lively acidity, and great aging potential .
Conclusion:
The 2021 Meursault "Les Narvaux" by Vincent Latour embodies the purist side of Meursault: straightforward, mineral, and coolly elegant . It combines the barren soils of the high-altitude vineyard with the signature of a winemaker who prioritizes precision and authenticity over opulence. A wine for lovers of structured, terroir-focused Chardonnays—and an expression of classic Burgundy tradition in a challenging vintage.
