Product Information
2022 Chardonnay dry – Florian Reus – Franconia
Ortswein (Village Wine)
Origin
The Chardonnay from Florian Reus comes from Randersacker in Franconia, characterized by Muschelkalk, loess, and limestone soils. The winery stands for uncompromising manual work and sustainable cultivation, resulting in concentrated, precise, and mineral grapes.
Vinification
The grapes are selectively hand-picked and processed in a basket press (controlled oxidation). Fermentation occurs spontaneously in barriques without temperature control, followed by 12 months of full-lees aging in wood without bâtonnage. The wine is bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulfurization.
Aroma and Taste
The nose reveals ripe pear, yellow apple, and citrus zest, accompanied by toasted nuts, brioche, and delicate herbs. On the palate, it is dense and creamy, yet firm, with fresh acidity, fine oak spice, and subtle reduction. The finish is long, salty-mineral, and elegantly creamy.
Food Pairings
Ideal with grilled fish, poultry, or creamy dishes. Also suitable with mushrooms or sophisticated vegetarian cuisine. Serve at 10–12 °C.
Vintage Characteristics in the Region
The 2022 vintage was characterized by heat and dry periods, followed by a cooler September, which resulted in fruity, accessible, yet structured white wines.
Conclusion
The 2022 Chardonnay dry from Florian Reus combines Burgundian style with Franconian minerality. A powerful, precise, and at the same time elegant Chardonnay with depth and character.
