Product Information
2023 Terra Montosa Riesling dry Weingut Breuer - Rheingau
single-vineyard wine
Origin:
The Terra Montosa Riesling 2023 is the quintessence of the Breuer winery's great steep slopes. The grapes come from the famous Rüdesheim mountain sites (Berg Rottland, Berg Roseneck, Berg Schlossberg), the Rauenthaler Nonnenberg (monopoly owned) and the Lorch Pfaffenwies , which has been part of the estate since 2019. Almost all of these sites are characterized by slate and quartzite soils , which give the wine its mineral tension and complexity. The name "Terra Montosa" - the steep earth - refers to its origins in the steepest and most demanding vineyards of the central Rheingau . The wine is not a "pre-harvest" of the Großes Gewächse (Great Growths), but is composed from the same lots shortly before bottling - making it a truly high-class cuvée from these top locations .
Expansion:
Vinification follows a traditional approach: spontaneous fermentation and aging in large wooden barrels – single-barrel and half-barrel. Extended contact with the yeast gives the wine density, balance, and inner serenity without sacrificing freshness. The 2023 vintage was farmed consistently and naturally, with strict selection and a focus on healthy, ripe grapes.
Aroma & Taste:
On the nose, the Terra Montosa displays cool freshness and slate spice , accompanied by notes of ripe citrus fruits, quince, and white peach. On the palate, it presents itself taut, precise, and elegant , with crystal-clear fruit, a delicate spice, and a vibrant, salty minerality. The balance of power and elegance makes it one of the most exciting single-vineyard cuvées in the Rheingau.
Food recommendation:
This Riesling is an ideal accompaniment to fine fish, shellfish, poultry with light sauces, or delicately spiced Asian dishes . It also demonstrates great potential neat as an elegant aperitif or solo wine.
Special features of the 2023 vintage in the Rheingau:
The year 2023 is considered a classic Riesling year in the Rheingau. Despite the rainy summer months, the Riesling grapes remained healthy well into the fall, while Burgundy varieties required more intensive selection work. The golden autumn with its cool nights produced aromatic, ripe grapes with excellent acidity . Exceptional quality was harvested, particularly on the steep slopes of Rüdesheim and Lorch – 2023 will go down in history as the region's Riesling vintage .
Conclusion:
The 2023 Terra Montosa Riesling dry combines the DNA of the great Breuer vineyards in a single wine. Powerful, elegant, and minerally marked , it impressively demonstrates the direction in which Theresa Breuer's single-vineyard wines are developing. A top-quality Riesling with great character and aging potential.
