Product Information
2023 Rüdesheim Bischofsberg Riesling dry Winery Alexander Schregel - Rheingau
single-vineyard wine
Origin:
The Rüdesheim Bischofsberg is one of the Rheingau's most traditional vineyards. Named after the Archbishops of Mainz, who promoted the clearing of the vineyards, it is characterized by deep loess-clay soils with excellent drainage . These soils lend the wines volume and substance , while the high altitude and proximity to the Rhine ensure freshness and minerality. In dry years, the Bischofsberg reveals its full potential: powerful, complex Rieslings with a clear structure.
Expansion:
The grapes were selectively harvested by hand , fermented spontaneously, and bottled unfiltered . Aging took place in used oak barrels, giving the wine structure and complexity without overpowering the crisp fruit. Schregel's approach remains purist: lots of vineyard, little cellar , to bring the unadulterated terroir into the glass.
Aroma & Taste:
Stone fruit notes of peach and apricot dominate the nose, accompanied by delicate herbal spice and an elegant minerality. On the palate, the wine is powerful, taut, and yet harmonious , supported by a clear, precise acidity. The texture is dense and compact, with a dry, saline, and long-lasting finish—a Riesling with character and inner tension.
Food recommendation:
Perfect with grilled zander with herbs , poultry dishes in light sauces , or Asian cuisine with ginger and coriander . It also makes a harmonious accompaniment to mature hard cheeses or vegetarian risotto with fennel and citrus notes .
Special features of the 2023 vintage in the Rheingau:
The 2023 vintage was a classic Riesling year in the Rheingau. Despite heavy rainfall in the summer, the Riesling grapes remained healthy and benefited from a golden autumn with cool nights. The wines are fruity, structured, and with harmonious acidity. The mountain vineyards of Rüdesheim and Lorch, in particular, produced outstanding qualities – elegant, long-lasting Rieslings with a clear terroir character.
Conclusion:
The 2023 Rüdesheim Bischofsberg Riesling dry is a top-quality wine from Alexander Schregel : powerful, complex, yet precise. It combines the minerality and elegance of the terroir with the winemaker's artisanal style. Limited to only 2,300 bottles , it exemplifies the great tradition of Rüdesheim vineyards and Schregel's uncompromising commitment to quality.
