2022 Pinot Noir dry Clemens Rosenkranz - Rheingau
single-vineyard wine

Origin:

The 2022 Pinot Noir dry from Clemens Rosenkranz comes from Hochheim , in the eastern part of the Rheingau on the Main River. Unlike the classic Rhine vineyards, Hochheim offers deep soils of clay and limestone that reliably provide the vines with water and nutrients . The western part of the Hochheim vineyard, from which the grapes come, is characterized by a fertile soil layer with underlying limestone. The combination of warm exposure and constant wind leads to early bud break, a long ripening phase, and intense aroma development . Two hectares of the winery's eight hectares of vineyards are dedicated to Pinot Noir – with genetic origins in Burgundy .

Expansion:

The harvest was carried out by hand and relatively early to preserve freshness and structure. After a cold maceration and the use of 10% whole grapes, the wine fermented using a classic open mash fermentation . Aging took place for 12 months in French pièces (20% new oak) before blending. The wine then matured for another 12 months in stainless steel . Bottled unfiltered, it consistently reflects Clemens Rosenkranz's artisanal credo.

Aroma & Taste:

In the glass, a clear, cool Pinot style reveals itself, possessing both elegance and depth. The nose is dominated by red berries, cherries, and summer fruits , underscored by subtle spices, smoke, and forest floor . On the palate, it is precise and dense , yet elegant and balanced, with juicy fruit, lively acidity, and fine-grained tannins . The wood notes are perfectly integrated, giving the wine subtle accents of tobacco, herbs, and fine spice . A Pinot Noir with a cool character and Burgundian appeal .

Food recommendation:

Ideal with grilled lamb , braised veal cheeks , mushroom risotto , or mature soft cheese . It also displays its elegance on its own.

Special features of the 2022 vintage in the Rheingau:

The year 2022 was characterized by heat and dryness , which initially placed considerable demands on the vines. However, the warm late summer and a long ripening period allowed for healthy, aromatic grapes to be harvested. The wines are juicy, ripe, yet delicate , with fine acidity as their backbone. It was an outstanding year for red wine production, producing intensely colored and structured wines – the ideal conditions for a Pinot Noir of international stature .

Conclusion:

Clemens Rosenkranz's 2022 Pinot Noir dry combines elegance, finesse, and depth . With its clean fruit, subtle spice, and a cool, Burgundian style, it sets an exclamation mark for Hochheim as an excellent terroir for Pinot Noir. A wine that demonstrates how the Rheingau is repositioning itself in the face of climate change—authentic, full of character, and with great aging potential.
